Bottom Line

All messaging apps have some risk of sexting and bullying. This app is for group chatting so a child could be added to a group chat with people they do not know. Therefore, GroupMe also has some risk of meeting strangers. No child should have a messaging product that their parent is unaware of. No child under 13 should use this app at all.

Talking to Your Children

If you allow your child to use GroupMe without monitoring them, it is impossible to know what they are sharing with their contacts. It is important to periodically check your child's activity to be sure they are communicating with real life friends/family. Discuss the risks of bullying and sexting with your child before you allow them to use GroupMe.
