Messenger

Messenger is the messaging application for Facebook users. It can also be used to message other people, including friends of friends, anyone who has your child's phone number (or vice versa) and even strangers who find your child's Facebook profile and send an unsolicited message. Facebook prohibits any child under 13 from having an account and you should not make an account for your child if your child is younger than 15. No minor should have a social networking or messaging account that their parent is unaware of. See our Facebook review for more information.
Any messaging app can pose a potential threat to your child’s safety. Messenger can expose your child to the possibility of bullying, sexting, sharing adult content and meeting strangers. SaferKid suggests you review our parents' guides on these topics and make sure you've discussed them with your child before letting him/her use Facebook and its Messenger app.
