Chatter - Anonymous Local Sharing
This app is very similar to Yik Yak which is very high risk. It is a location sharing service that allows users to anonymously post and share photo/video for anyone nearby to see. It also allows users to join a college page to find students posting at nearby schools. It will not allow users to change schools more than once every 30 days but this restriction can easily be sidestepped by logging out and creating a new username. When posting, users can set time limits for viewing photos and anyone can reply via a comments section on each post. Because users post anonymously, this app has high risk for bullying. During our review process we found minors sharing photos of themselves and soliciting sex from nearby strangers. We also found users looking to buy narcotics in their area. This app is very dangerous for children to use. It connects them with strangers nearby and shares their location publicly. No minor should use this app.
This app is not appropriate for children to use. It will connect your child with strangers nearby, allowing your child to share photo/video and personal information, creating a situation that can quickly become very dangerous. Unfortunately, there is no safe way for a child to use an app such as this one.
